Malaysia: Visa Info

  • 01/10/2020

The Malaysian Government issues Three (3) types of visas to foreign nationals:

1. Single Entry Visa

This is issued to foreign nationals who require a visa to enter Malaysia mainly for a social visit. It is normally valid for a single entry and for a period of three (3) months from the date of issue.

2. Multiple Entry Visa

This is issued to foreign nationals who require a visa to enter Malaysia mainly for business or government-to-government matters. It is normally valid for a period within three (3) months to twelve (12) months from the date of issue. Citizens of India and the People's Republic of China who wish to enter Malaysia for the purpose of a Social Visit are eligible to apply for the Multiple Entry Visa. The validity of the Multiple Entry Visa is one (1) year. Each entry is for 30 days only and the extension of stay is not allowed.

Conditions for the Multiple Entry Visa are:

  • The applicant must show proof of sufficient funds for staying in Malaysia
  • The applicant must possess a valid and confirmed return ticket
  • Tour groups are not eligible to apply for Multiple Entry Visa.
  • The Multiple Entry Visa costs RM100.00 for Indian Citizens and RM30.00 for citizens of the People's Republic of China.

3. Transit Visa

This is issued to foreign nationals who require a visa to enter Malaysia on transit to other countries. Foreign nationals on transit without leaving the airport premises and who continue their journey to the next destination with the same flight do not require a transit visa.

The above visas can be applied at the abroad missions of Malaysia.

Then there is eVisa which is an online application platform that enables foreign nationals to apply for an electronic visa to enter Malaysia at the comfort of your convenience. eVISA can be applied around the world except Malaysia and Singapore. eVISA is vaild for 3 months while eVISA holder is entitled to stay up to a maximum of 15 or 30 days for each visit in Malaysia depends on the type of the eVISA.

The only information required for the Malaysia visa application is basic passport information. This includes the full name, birthdate, gender, and country of the applicant. The applicant must also submit their passport number, the date on which the passport was issued, and the expiration date. And finally, the application asks for the date of entry into Malaysia.

Keep in mind that travelers must receive their approved eVisa before their trip, however, at present this is not possible while the applicant is still in Nepal. The application takes approximately 3 business days to process. Therefore, it is best to submit the application at least 2 weeks before the planned date of departure to Malaysia.

Once the application is approved, the eVisa will be emailed to the applicant. Be sure to print the document on letter-sized paper since a digital version will not be accepted. Travelers may need to show the eVisa during their time in Malaysia, and may also need to show it when leaving the country.

In addition to the printed eVisa, there are additional documents which are required upon arrival in Malaysia. Travelers will need to show proof of a return flight. They will also need to show proof of accommodation during their time in Malaysia. This can be in the form of a hotel reservation or a letter from friends where the traveler will stay. And finally, the immigration authorities may request to see proof of sufficient financial support for the time in Malaysia. This can be in the form of cash, credit, or debit cards.
